Roaring Fork is the wooded side of Gatlinburg along Roaring Fork Road, just off the East Parkway on the edge of downtown. Stay here and you're close to the Parkway's shops and restaurants, and on the doorstep of the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail and Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Close to downtown Gatlinburg
Roaring Fork sits right on the edge of town, so a night out on the Parkway doesn't mean a long drive down the mountain. The Gatlinburg trolley is an easy way to get around when parking downtown is tight.
Gateway to the national park
The neighborhood takes its name from the Roaring Fork, a mountain stream that tumbles down from the park and through Gatlinburg. From here you're close to the park entrance and to the quieter routes into the mountains above town.
A cabin feel near town
Trees and hillside lots give cabins here a tucked-away feel, even though downtown is close by. It's a good balance for guests who want both.
The Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail is a narrow, one-way loop through old-growth forest, past historic cabins and mills, with rushing streams along much of the route. Trailheads along the way lead to popular waterfall hikes, including Grotto Falls, and the Rainbow Falls trailhead is on Cherokee Orchard Road just before the loop begins. The road is open seasonally and closes to vehicles in winter, so check the park's road status before you go. Our complete Roaring Fork guide covers stops, hikes and tips.
Downtown Gatlinburg puts Anakeesta, Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies, the Gatlinburg Space Needle and Gatlinburg SkyLift Park within easy reach. Ober Mountain is close by for the tram and seasonal skiing. For more ideas, see our Gatlinburg attractions and Gatlinburg restaurants guides.
Hikers and nature lovers
Being this close to the Great Smoky Mountains means an early start on the trails without a long drive first.

Go early
The Motor Nature Trail and nearby trailheads get busy on peak days. An early start means easier parking and a quieter drive.
Drive with care
Roads near the park are narrow and winding in places. Take it slow, and watch for wildlife.
Give bears space
Black bears live throughout this area. Keep your distance, never feed them, and keep trash secured.
