Wear Farm City Park

Pigeon Forge · Free, two playgrounds and a StoryWalk

Wear Farm City Park

Wear Farm City Park is Pigeon Forge's main city park, a big, open green space on Wears Valley Road with lighted ballfields, two playgrounds, walking trails and covered picnic pavilions. It's free to visit, and it's one of the best places in town to slow down, let the kids run and enjoy the mountain views away from the Parkway.

The park was completed in the spring of 2013 and has become a hub for local sports, youth baseball tournaments and family picnics. For visitors, it's an easy, no-cost break between attractions and a favorite stop for families staying in Pigeon Forge and Wears Valley.

Ballfields and tournaments

Sports are a big part of Wear Farm City Park. The park has five lighted softball and baseball fields, a lighted football field, a multi-purpose field and a basketball court, along with two concession and restroom buildings that serve game days.

The ballfields host youth tournaments through much of the year. The Ripken Experience uses turf fields at Wear Farm for some of its tournament games, so if your family is in town for a Ripken event, there's a good chance you'll spend time here. Our Pigeon Forge baseball tournament guide has tips for planning a tournament trip, and our cabins near the Ripken Experience keep the whole team close to the fields.

Two playgrounds

Wear Farm has two playgrounds for kids up to age 12, each set beside one of the park's pavilions, so parents can sit in the shade while the kids play.

Discovery Playground

The Discovery Playground is fully accessible for children with special needs, so kids of all abilities can play together.

Wear Farm Playground

The second playground sits next to the pavilion closest to the main entrance. Families with little ones will find a fenced toddler area with a shade canopy, and older kids have a bigger playset and swings to explore.

Some of the play areas are in full sun, so bring sunscreen and water on summer afternoons.

Walking trails and the StoryWalk

A walking trail loops around the park, and it's mostly flat and easy for strollers. It's a nice place for an early-morning walk or a slow evening stroll with mountain views. Along the way, the StoryWalk Trail turns a children's book into a walk, with pages posted along the path so families can read the story as they go.

Many visitors also bring the dog along for a walk on the trail. Keep pets on a leash and clean up after them.

Picnic pavilions

The park has two covered pavilions with picnic tables, a charcoal grill, electrical outlets and lighting. They're a great spot for a family reunion lunch, a birthday party or a team cookout after a game.

The pavilions can be reserved from March 1 through October 31 through the Pigeon Forge Community Center, and reservations for the current year open in January. When a pavilion isn't reserved, it's first come, first served. Alcohol and amplified sound aren't permitted, and groups are asked to leave the pavilion the way they found it.

Why visit on vacation

It's free

There's no admission and no charge for parking, so the park is an easy way to fill a few hours without adding to the vacation budget.

A break from the Parkway

After a day of attractions and traffic, Wear Farm feels wide open and quiet. Grab lunch to go, spread out at a picnic table and let everyone recharge.

Room for the kids to run

Between the playgrounds, the open fields and the trail, it's one of the best places in Pigeon Forge for kids to burn off energy, especially on a day when the cabin hot tub isn't enough.

On the way to Wears Valley

The park sits on Wears Valley Road, the scenic route from Pigeon Forge into Wears Valley and toward the national park. It's an easy stop on the way. See our guide to things to do in Wears Valley for more ideas.

Know before you go

Tournament weekends are the park's busiest times. When the ballfields are full, the parking lots and playgrounds fill up too, so a weekday morning or a weekend evening is usually the quietest time for a picnic or a walk. Much of the park is open and sunny, so bring water, sunscreen and hats in the summer, and a blanket or chairs if you plan to watch a game from the grass.
