A hometown tribute
Dolly Parton grew up in the mountains of Sevier County, and in 1987 her hometown honored her with this statue. Dolly came home for the unveiling.
The artist
The statue was created by local artist Jim Gray, who captured Dolly as a young girl with big dreams, sitting barefoot on a Smoky Mountain rock with her guitar in her arms.
Look for the butterfly
Look closely at the guitar and you'll find a small butterfly. Butterflies are one of Dolly's best-known symbols, and spotting it is a fun detail for fans.
The courthouse
The statue's backdrop is the Sevier County Courthouse, a red brick, 19th-century landmark with a clock tower that rises over downtown. Together they make one of the most recognizable scenes in Sevierville.
