Big Daddy's Pizzeria in Pigeon Forge bakes its pizzas in a one-of-a-kind brick oven over a 550-degree wood fire. It's a casual, family-friendly spot on the Parkway with handmade dough, fresh toppings and an arcade for the kids.

Big Daddy's is part of the Johnson Family of Restaurants, the local family behind Alamo Steakhouse and Bennett's Pit Bar-B-Que. There are three Big Daddy's in the Smokies, in Pigeon Forge, Sevierville and Gatlinburg.

Wood-fired pizza

Every pie starts with handcrafted, homemade dough, pulled by hand, and finishes in the wood-fired brick oven, where the high heat gives the crust a crisp, lightly charred edge. Big Daddy's is serious about freshness. There's no freezer on the premises, so toppings and sauces are made fresh.

Specialty pies

The specialty pizza list ranges from a classic Margherita and a white pizza to meat-loaded pies, a veggie-forward option and creative combinations with barbecue, chicken and even a taco-style pie. Most come in two sizes, so you can order one big pie for the table or a few smaller ones to share and compare.

Round out the meal with appetizers and wings, which come in a few different styles, or fresh salads like Greek, Caesar, antipasto and a wood-roasted chicken salad. There are sandwiches on the menu, too.

With three locations, it's easy to mix them up. The Pigeon Forge restaurant is on the Parkway at 3053 Parkway, convenient to Dollywood, The Island and most Pigeon Forge cabins, and it's the one with the arcade. There's also a Big Daddy's farther north on the Parkway in Sevierville and one on River Road in Gatlinburg. Pick the one closest to where you're spending the day.
